Skin Oil is a skincare product that has become extremely popular lately, and i’m here to tell you it’s NOT something to be feared, although I know it seems odd – you’ve got to trust me on this! It has been cited as being better than moisturisers or face packs and the skincare industry praise the effects of oil for skin treatments for a reason! So, there’s no reason to be scared – below are the benefits that oil can give your skin, and why it is the key to a good complexion.
-
The Benefits of Using Oil on The Skin
Permeable Properties
Oil has many properties that makes it better at moisturising than regular moisturisers and face creams. The viscosity of the oil means that it is easily absorbed by the skin, making it ideal to quickly and effectively hydrate your face; creating a quicker and lasting glow effect – perfect!
Hydration
Hydration is extremely important when trying to avoid problems such as dry skin and flakiness. When the skin is hydrated it is more flexible and less prone to damage. When the skin is dry it becomes tighter *and not in the good way*, so that any movement or facial expressions can cause unintentional damage and cracks. This can lead to soreness, wrinkles and in extremely bad cases, scarring. Therefore, using oil hydrates for the skin and is extremely effective at locking in hydration, leaving your skin smooth and soft.
Vitamins, Minerals and Vitality
Most skin oils have fantastic properties that can keep your skin healthy and glowing. They contain anti-oxidants and minerals that boost the strength of your skin cells, making them look vitalised and glowing. These mineral properties in oil help with skin struggles, such as flakey skin and sun damage skin; face oil helps to restore your natural complexion, so now we can see why it should be an obvious choice over products such as moisturising creams.
Used by The Professionals
Skin oil is a ‘secret weapon’ used by facialists within the industry. They have been using oil as a massage enabler, realising that the oil, even without the massage, is what leaves their customers skin radiant and glowing afterwards. Think about it, this could be the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a massage! The massage process helps the skin to absorb the oil faster, as it contracts and expands the pores in the skin, meaning the oil and its vitamins and minerals penetrates the skin easier.

Too Many to Choose From!
With the market recently being completely flooded with different types of oils, it’s hard to know which oil does which job; below is a range of different oils, and the range of benefits they can provide you.
Sensitive Skin – Avocado Oil
If you have sensitive skin and are worried about the affectation that oil will have, then try using Avocado Oil. It has calming properties in it, and can sooth skin conditions such as eczema.
Oily and Acne Prone Skin – Argan Oil
This oil has properties that can, believe it or not, keep your skin oil levels down! The oil works to keep your skin hydrated, which means your body will not produce and send lots of oil to areas it thinks are dry. Furthermore, Argan Oil can even help prevent acne too!
Large Pores and Dull Skin – Pomegranate Oil
Pomegranate Oil contains large amounts of Vitamin C and antioxidants, which work on the skin making it enriched and brighter – it also helps to reduce the size of open pores.
Dry Skin – Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil has vitamins and fatty acids which help to hydrate and repair the skin. It is the most hydrating oil available, and well worth looking into if you are a sufferer from or are prone to skin dryness.
If you are looking for some effective skincare products, then check out Clarins Rebalancing Oils, Jan Marini Skincare or Obagi Medical these ranges of products will get you well on your way to having the skin and complexion you want to achieve.

I’ve heard that you shouldn’t use coconut oil on your face particularly, maybe this is why it was suggested for dry skin only? I have oily skin and recently started to use oil as a face cleanser. I have light acne (not too bad, mainly hormonal) and pretty oily skin. At the moment I’m using jojoba oil on my face, neck and décolletage, but I’ve also heard very good things about castor oil as a cleanser.
Afterwards I feel quite refreshed and my skin feels clean. Only a few days after doing it, my skin felt very soft and the pimples I did have had started to clear up. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Jojoba oil has worked wonders at balancing my skin and stopping excess oil production. Since using it as a cleanser my once combo skin is now normal! Love love oils! I also use rosehip oil and argan oil depending on what my skin feels it needs. I’ve also started a Akin cellular treatment oil which has a combination of precious oils as a nighttime serum. Have I said how much I love oils? Lol!
