Favourites Of The Week!

Hi everyone,

It’s been a busy week for me as end of semester university exams approach! I’ve been organising my notes and studying quite a lot this week and while it may not be my favourite past time, I know it’ll be worth it! So during my breaks, I’ve been savouring those moments by catching up on a TV show and some YouTube videos to relax for a few moments!

Here are my favourites from this week:

1. Masterchef Australia – I’ve always watched all the seasons of this show but I think I’m enjoying this season the most! There are some great cooks this year and the challenges and tests they’ve been put through are really interesting to watch.

2. Benefit Cosmetic’s ‘gimme BROW’ – My Benefit order recently landed on my doorstep and I’ve been loving Gimme Brow because it leaves your brows looking so natural and it’s so quick and easy to apply.

3. Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Grapefruit – To protect my lips from the now Winter weather, I’ve been using the this product and I love the subtle hint of colour and shimmer it gives the lips!

4. The SacconeJoly’s – The SacconeJoly’s are a family from Ireland who daily vlog and their videos always seem to put a smile on my face! The family consists of Jonathan, Anna, their nearly 2 year old daughter Emilia and newborn baby Eduardo.

This week I also came across this video from Julia Graf titled, ‘The Death of Creativity on Youtube‘. I watch a lot of beauty tutorial videos and videos from beauty guru’s and I have to say I agree with Julia when she talks about all the negative comments she and other YouTuber’s receive for creating a colourful or out of the box makeup look. I’ve definitely recently noticed some really rude comments being left on videos which don’t conform to the ‘average’ or wearable makeup looks which is quite sad because I’ve always thought of YouTube as a place where you can be as creative as you want! Here is her video:

  1. I really hope creativity doesn’t die on Youtube… I have also noticed the negative comments on channels that feature ‘unwearable’ or bright/colourful looks, and I think it’s so sad that people would try to stifle creativity in that way… I really enjoy those videos, I get a lot of inspiration and am always learning new techniques even if I wouldn’t necessarily wear that look out, and I think Youtube beauty world would become a very boring place if everyone was doing the same tutorials as each other all the time!
I’ve just started using Gimme Brow as well and I adore it.. Can’t believe I did without it for so long!

    • You took the words right out of my mouth Angie! The YT beauty community is split in so many ways over so many different things, but I’d rather watch a creative make-up tutorial any day over 20 minutes someones 8 favourite nude lipsticks that all look the same anyway, although I do enjoy those videos too, they get repetitive and boring. I don’t want that side of the YT beauty community to die because that’s what got me into it in the first place.

    • I completely agree with what you’ve said! When watching makeup tutorials, there are a lot of negative comments. I’ve seen colourful looks being slammed for being unwearable or too crazy but I’ve also seen videos where the look is very neutral and wearable and people complain that they’ve seen the same thing too many times which is a bit ironic. Hopefully YouTubers continue to do what they love and not try to cater to their negative viewers though I understand it would be very hard to please everyone.

  2. Benefit gimme is on my wish list at the moment. I heard so much about it. Have you tried anastasia Beverley hills brow products? I am wondering which I should buy first x

  3. Why do people have to write such negative stuff to begin with let alone try and incite others to really ‘hate’? I just don’t get it. It will be a shame if people stop being creative because of continual negativity or what sounds like groups starting to rally in such a horrible way! If ‘those’ very same people used their energy on something positive can u even begin to imagine how creative you tube and other social media forums would be! Good luck with ur end of semester ‘pressure cooker’ time! Xx

    • It’s such a shame that there are people out there who spend their time leaving negative comments on others’ works. Hopefully they come to realise that what they say really does have an effect on the targeted person and will stop!

Thank you for the well wishes! The exams went well x
