Winter Moisturisers For Your Skin Type

Hi everyone,

I’ve had a busy few months trialling quite a few moisturisers and I’ve found some real gems that are perfect for Winter! Whether you have a dry skin or oily skin type, skin is bound to get a little drier thanks to the Winter elements and so it’s important to switch up a few products in your skincare regime to cater to the season. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use a different moisturizer to ensure you’re keeping your skin hydrated. It’s also really important to note that slathering the skin with excess moisturizer won’t help your skin stay more hydrated even when compared to using a pea sized amount. All you need is enough to smooth over the face and neck. If you’ve applied too much, it could actually cause a few issues like blocked pores, breakouts and an oily appearance and residue on the skin.

So instead of reviewing each of the moisturisers individually, I thought I’d put together a post like this where you’ll be able to get an overview of all of them, which will make it easier to compare and determine which of these may be the best fit for your skin!

A product I’d recommend to use all year round before applying your moisturizer is Hydraluron from Indeed Labs. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Hydraluron, it is an all over facial hydration serum that was created to boost hydration levels within the skin. Containing hyaluronic acid and a bio-engineered strain of red marine algae, blood circulation in increased in a controlled manner which then stimulates cell turnover and allows deeper penetration of the product to the skins deeper layers. Hyaluronic acid is capable of absorbing 1000 times its own weight in water. Use then allows for any product applied on top of it to be better absorbed and over time, lesser quantities of the products applied on top will be needed as Hydraluron aids to carry and store its hydrating properties.I have a full review here.

However, if you’re looking for a free alternative that gives a very similar result, apply your moisturiser when you skin is still damp from (depending on your skincare regime) cleansing, toning, etc. Moisturiser applied onto damp skin helps seal in the moisture already on the skin as well as helping it better absorb.

Now onto my top moisturiser picks this winter!

Elucent Whitening Day Moisturiser* & Elucent Whitening Night Moisturiser* – Suitable for all skin types. I’d recommend it for: Uneven skin tone & dark spot affected skin.elucent whitening day and night cream

The Elucent Whitening range uses a multifunctional skin brightening technology to help even the skin’s complexion. The product range’s formula contains a number of natural ingredients to brighten the skin, reduce discolouration and improve the skin in a number of ways. The Day Moisturiser contains Emblica Fruit Extract, Safflower Seed Oil and Vitamins B3 & E and has an SPF of 30 (which is amazing as this has to be one of the highest SPF’s I’ve seen in a moisturiser). Housed in an easy to use pump design, the moisturiser is of a nice light consistency that can be worked into the skin, ensuring that it soaks into the skin well without leaving a sticky residue. Makeup application was not an issue when using this moisturiser and it instead helped base makeup (foundations, concealers, etc) glide on easily.  I used this in conjunction with the Whitening Night Moisturiser which contains the same key ingredients (minus the SPF) as well as Vitamin C. This night cream works to replenish the moisture the skin has lost during the day as well as fighting the appearance of discolouration and dark spots. After 6 weeks of using the whole Whitening Range from Elucent, it was evident that my skin became noticeably brighter and clearer. Any areas with some spots and discolouration did lighten and my skin overall was left looking healthy and hydrated! Elucent Whitening Day Moisturiser ($49.99) & Elucent Whitening Night Moisturiser ($49.99) exclusive to Chemist Warehouse and My Chemist stores nationally.

BioELIXIA Multi V Moisturising Lotion* – Suitable for most skin types. I’d recommend it for: All skin types.

BioElixia MultiV Moisturising Lotion

This moisturising lotion is powered by ‘BioELIXIA’s world patented TPM® Dermal Delivery Technology. Unlike most skincare products that remain on the skin’s surface, this dermal delivery technology is scientifically proven to enhance the absorption and penetration of key ingredients further into the skin, for a healthier, younger looking appearance.’ With 4x greater absorption into skin, this lotion has a lovely fresh scent. Dispensed with a pump, the formula contains Rose Hip, Rice Bran and Grape Seed oils to moisturise the skin whilst its multi vitamins and Retinol help give the skin a radiant finish. It is free from parabens, artificial colours and dyes, synthetic fragrance as well as a whole host of other nasties. The lotion is lightweight and easy to apply to the skin, absorbing very well and leaving no residue. Suitable for use day and night, I began using this as a night cream as I was trialling another day cream but when used day and night for weeks, this worked wonderfully for my skin! It definitely gave a radiant glow to the skin which was evident, even waking up the next morning. Although it’s a light consistency, it doesn’t detract from its ability to really effectively hydrate the skin and improve its overall appearance. BioELIXIA Multi V Moisturising Lotion ($49.95) available online at BioElixia.com and David Jones.

Dr Lewinn’s Private Formula Day Cream Moisturiser* – Suitable for normal & dry skin. I’d recommend it for: Normal & Dry Skin.dr lewinns day cream moisturiser

A beautifully rich and luxurious day moisturiser, this Dr Lewinn’s product is designed to promote skin cell renewal and target the visible signs of aging with its formula containing vitamins A, B, E, apricot kernel, sesame seed oil and soluble collagen. Along with the antioxidants in this moisturiser, all the key ingredients help to moisturise, nourish, protect and rejuvenate the skin. Although a thick moisturiser, it acts very light on the skin, allowing it to be soaked into the skin quickly, leaving no greasy feel or residue on the skin. Skin instantly feels hydrated and moisturised with a nice healthy finish that lasts all day. Applying makeup on top of this moisturiser is not a problem at all as it didn’t produce any excess shine throughout the day. The scented formula also contains sunscreens to help protect the skin from environmental damage. Overall, I found the Dr Lewinn’s Private Formula Day Cream Moisturiser to be a lovely hydrating product for my normal to dry skin. Although I cant comment on the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles as I’m only 20, it moisturised my skin very well without it being too heavy and after 4 weeks of use, my skin was left looking and feeling both smooth and plump with a healthy glow.  Dr Lewinn’s Private Formula Day Cream Moisturiser ($69.95) can be purchased from Myer, Priceline and leading pharmacies nationwide.

Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron Moisture Jelly* – Suitable for all skin types. I’d recommend it for: Normal, Combination & Oily Skin.indeed labs hydraluron moisture jellyIndeed Laboratories’ latest product launch is their first moisturiser which is a product from their worldwide popular Hydraluron range. Perfectly paired with Hydraluron, the serum, this product uses a combination of 5 key actives, including PatcH20, a complex that helps lock in moisture, Fucogel for long term binding of water and moisturisation and of course, hyaluronic acid,  which helps retain 1000 times its weight in water. The formula is also oil, fragrance, parabens and colour. The ‘state’ of the moisture jelly is something I’ve never experienced before with a moisturiser. Dispensed by pushing down the white plate, a pea sized amount is released from the middle of the plate. The jelly is extremely light and melts into the skin due to body heat and is very easy to apply all over the skin. In under a minute, there is absolutely no residue, as if you haven’t applied anything! It’s the perfect product to use daily under makeup as it feels completely invisible. I’ve used this for nearly 4 weeks now and while I love how light the product is, I’m looking for a little bit more hydration during winter as my skin tends to be a little drier. However, this product would be perfect as a staple moisturiser for all the other seasons of the year. Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron Moisture Jelly ($39.99) from Priceline stores nationwide.

I really hope this post has helped you all as well as given you some tips with Winter skincare! If you’d like a more in depth review and look at any of these products, don’t hesitate to let me know.
