Camp Beauty is an Australian brand started by two of the most popular celebrity hairdressers and makeup artists in the country, Michelle Scott and Jo Cotter, who together have more than 40 years of experience in the industry.
Operation Makeover is Camp Beauty’s mission to give women the skills to do their own make-up, fast and easy, with just the essentials. No mess, no fuss.
Along with providing beauty workshops at their HQ as well as mobile and corporate classes, they’ve also combined their knowledge to create the Survival Kit line of cosmetics, covering every product you’d ever need in a makeup routine as well as producing the tools you need, including a complete makeup brush set to enable you to create the best looks you can!
Today I’ll be reviewing 2 of their best selling products, the Survival Kit By Camp Beauty Brush Set and the Survival Kit By Camp Beauty Primer.
The Survival Kit By Camp Beauty Primer is a lovely 2 in 1 product that aims to create the perfect base for foundation application by evening out the skin’s texture as well as acting as a moisturiser to hydrate and smooth the skin even more. Made from all natural ingredients, the primer has a lovely light citrus scent as well as a light texture thanks to the cream/gel formula, allowing the product to just glide onto the skin. Once absorbed, it leaves the skin feeling smooth, supple and ready for the application of foundation.Containing 15 different brushes, the Survival Kit By Camp Beauty Brush Set has over 3 years of planning and offers some amazing features that shows just how much experience and knowledge both Michelle and Jo have put in during the process of creating this professional brush set.
The brushes feature ‘shorter handles for greater control and movement’ and each individual brush is made from high quality Pony, Goat or Synthetic hair, catered to the exact use for the said brush. Not only that, but what I really love about the brushes is that they’re both numbered in order of use and their function is also labeled on the handle, making each brush easily identifiable. Whether you’re totally new to makeup application or a professional, this feature is one that provides great help and ease of use.
The slightly shorter than usual brush handles are surprisingly very comfortable to hold and use and the brush hairs on all the brushes are very soft and densely packed. After multiple washes, I’ve found them to be very easy to spot clean and deep clean and they have barely shed any hairs (from my memory, only 2 – 3 in total!). As usual, the natural brush hairs need slightly more care so it’s best to spot clean them to ensure they stay in perfect shape. The winning feature of this Brush Kit for me is that there is not one brush in the set that I wouldn’t use! The no.4 which features a sponge head is a brush not many are fans of (and I usually am not) but I’ve now grown to quite like it for applying a wash of cream shadow over the lids. I think the shape and size of the brush heads are perfect for their intended use and each Survival Kit By Camp Beauty Brush Set comes with descriptions & directions for each brush (plus care instructions) so if you’re not too confident at makeup application, it will guide you through the process.
The brush set comes housed in a lovely brush barrel which both provides easy display and/or storage of the brushes and is perfect to use to protect the brushes if you’re taking them with you whilst you traveling.
The Survival Kit By Camp Beauty Brush Set retails for $149.95 but for a limited time, it is on sale for the special price of $99.95, a discount of $50.00! The Survival Kit By Camp Beauty Primer is priced at $39.95.
