4 Facial SPF Sunscreens You Need To Try
Hi everyone,
A lot of people dont like using a sunscreen on their face and under makeup as they feel like they’ll end up looking like a greasy mess throughout the day and usually just rely on whatever SPF their foundation has. Obviously there are moisturisers on the market that contain a high SPF, such as the Olay Complete Defence UV Moisturising Lotion (which I’ve used for years) but now there are some amazing facial SPF’s on the market that not only provide great sun protection but wont clog your pores or leave you looking like an oil slick, perfect to use under makeup! Below are some of these options which I love and they’re suitable for all different budgets.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Clear Face Sunscreen SPF 30 – $16.99
Targeted towards breakout prone skin (though anyone can use it!), this sunscreen has a very subtle sunscreen scent and like the packaging states, this product really has a water light texture – it’s quite a bit more fluid than traditional sunscreens and this makes it so quick and easy to apply. You dont need to work hard to blend it into the skin as its light consistency instantly just melts into the skin and it’s oil free formula dries to matte finish which means no tackiness on the face and ensures it wont produce any excess oil throughout the day! It hasnt clogged any of my pores or caused any breakouts at all thanks to its non comedogenic formula!
Skinstitut Age Defence SPF 50+ Sunscreen – $45.00
Although a little thicker in consistency, this product really is worth giving a go! Providing a sun protection factor of 50+ and a water resistant formula, one of the things that’s impressed is that the sunscreen formula is quite hydrating! I have a normal – dry skin type and this product which is an ‘advanced chemical and physical hybrid moisturiser’ really works well as a time saving 2 in 1 sunscreen and moisturiser to not only provide sun protection but also hydrate my skin well without giving my face a greasy appearance.
Sun Sense Daily Face SPF 50 Invisible Tint Finish – $14.99
With a sheer tint that melts away when applied onto the skin, this product has an oil free and matte formula which makes it perfect for all skin types and it also has a slight moisturising aspect to it as well. Again, this product has a very nice and light consistency which aids in its easy application and won’t feel heavy on the skin. Whilst the formula is tinted a light shade, it absolutely disappears once worked into the skin and also ensures that there’s no white cast left on your face after application!
La Clinica Perfect Complexion Sunscreen Lotion SFP 50 – $30.00
Suitable for both the face and body and with a matte finish and dry touch, I really love the multi use face and body aspect of this product which you dont really see with other sunscreens! With a lighter, fluid consistency than regular sunscreens, this product is another one that is very easy to spread over all over the face and body as it melts into the skin. Once blended, the first few seconds will leave the skin feeling a very light tackiness but within another few seconds, the product completely dries and goes matte and there’s absolutely no residue left on the skin. It doesn’t produce any excess shine on my skin nor does it cause a white cast either!
Do you use a facial SPF or rely on the sun protection your makeup and skincare holds?

I’m a big fan of the Neutrogena one. I really liked the La Clinica eye cream I tired so I’ll need to give this sunscreen a go.Wearing sunscreen everyday is by far the best thing I’ve done for my skin!

I also love my Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Clear Face Sunscreen SPF 30. It glides onto my skin and is just absorbed straight away. It’s incredible. You said that you wear suncream everyday. I’m thinking about doing it. Is it worth it, even if you’re indoors that day? xx beacassidy.wordpress.com

Sunscreen everyday is a must for me and it will pay off in the long run. Even if you’re just sitting at a desk indoors, next to a window, you’re still exposed to rays so itt’s better to be safe than sorry and be protected.
For me, sunscreen is now like the final step in my skincare routine, I never skip it!

The La Clinia sunscreen is very close in formula to the Neutrogena one so I think you’ll really like it as well! I totally agree with daily SPF and it’ll definitely will pay off in the long run, 10, 20 years down the track!

I’ve been using Sunsense one for the last 2 years but it made my skin really greasy ( I have combination skin). I bought neutrogena one yesterday and wore it under my foundation today and it was excellent! No blochiness or greasiness! I might have found a winner!

Great that the Neutrogena one works so well on your skin! I have normal – dry skin and the Sunsense one works fine for me so it’s definitely something you need to try before you find one that suits the best!

I haven’t used the affordable brands since they increased the SPF value. I remember not really liking them way back then, they sound much better now. I’m using either La Roche Posay Melt In Cream or ModelCo face sunscreen. I’m not particularly wowed by either of them but thy do the job eventually.

Yes, I remember the olden days where high SPF’s would give a completely greasy look and whitecast. Thankfully none of the above do that! I’ve seen that the Model Co one is quite popular on social media!

I’m always looking for a good SPF sunscreen to wear underneath makeup and I think the Neutrogena one might be a winner with my oily-combo skin! Thanks for your helpful review! xx

My pleasure! The Neutrogena one is amazing as it completely just disappears into the skin, leaving a matte finish! The La Clinica would work really well on your skin too as it’s very much the same formula as the Neutrogena one! x
